Jewish life on campus is not up for negotiation.
Jewish students at The New School are under direct attack – and we have until THIS FRIDAY to make our voices heard.
On May 1st, The New School’s University Student Senate voted to declare Hillel “not in good standing” – stripping its funding and cutting all collaboration, effective immediately. This is the first time in the United States that a student government has voted to defund its campus Hillel chapter.
Their demand to Hillel? Renounce your identity. Sever all ties with Hillel International. Abandon your programs. Or you don’t belong here.
This is not policy. This is a purity test applied to Jewish students and no one else.
The university administration has rejected the vote and affirmed that Hillel remains in good standing – but the USS says it will continue to enforce its sanctions anyway. Jewish students are caught in the middle, and the fight is not over.
